I know what it’s like …
It all started with my Sabbatical in 2021. If you had asked me how I was doing prior to this time, I probably would’ve said, “There are always challenges, church planting is hard, but God is good, and I am okay.” But in 2021, I couldn’t say that sentence anymore. After 10 years of preparing, launching, and then leading my church plant in Berlin, my Sabbatical allowed me to finally take an honest look in the mirror; and what I saw there wasn’t pretty. I was overworked, exhausted, and deeply disappointed by life, God, and my church plant, my marriage was rocky, I was tense, driven, and constantly on my phone. Worst of all, God seemed quite far away, if not absent entirely, and I couldn’t remember the last time I had truly sensed his presence or had some sort of enjoyment of him outside of “ministry successes.” ….

DISCOVER A QUIET HEART IN LIFE AND MINISTRY –
roadmap for the journey
inner work.
A quiet heart is a sorted heart. Life has a way of wounding us, and ministry adds plenty more wounds (loneliness, disappointment, betrayal, and existential crises, to name a few) – but unless we tend to these wounds, they will start to control us, eventually making us more harmful than helpful to the people we serve and lead.
On this journey, God invites us to explore the deepest layers of our hearts, understand what is really going on underneath the surface, and let Him shape who we are becoming.
spiritual formation.
A quiet heart is a full heart, deeply aware of God’s presence and love. God is present, but oftentimes, we are not – we are busy, distracted, and subconsciously driven by our fears and ambitions, not by the gospel.
On this journey, God invites us to understand how we (unintentionally) rob ourselves of the awareness of His presence, and learn together how to live in “the unforced rhythms of grace”.
The journey includes …
-
Honest and encouraging reflections on the challenges of church planting as well as recommendations of resources helping to discover a different kind of life and ministry (via newsletter and blog)
-
... to guide you in slowing down, becoming aware of God’s presence and finding a quiet heart
-
... about topics like dealing with grief, finding healthy spiritual rhythms, navigating conflict, dealing with chronic anxiety, etc.
-
... to learn together & from each other
-
... whatever else God might want to do … who knows!
